REFERRALS
How we can help?
ARE YOU A PARENT?
FLUX is able to provide support for parents of young people who are using
drugs or alcohol or are using substances themselves.
Please call the FLUX office with your contact details and we will endeavour to respond within 1 working day.
If you have a child or young person who you are concerned about, we provide
a confidential service to you and to the child/young person.

ARE YOU A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL?
Please contact the FLUX
office.
What to do first
All referrals to FLUX (except self-referrals and/or referrals from parents and or carers) should be accompanied by a completed SUST (Substance Misuse Screening tool) PLUS a completed FLUX referral form (PDF). Please call the office for further details.
Once a referral for an FLUX assessment has been agreed the following
process will start. Our aim is to respond to the referral within the following
time frame:
within 5
working days of agreement for further assessment with FLUX, a substance
misuse worker will make contact with you/ the young person to arrange
an initial meeting at a place and time that best suits everyone involved.
within 10
working days of the initial meeting the FLUX service will complete a full and comprehensive assessment of needs. From this assessment a "Care Plan" will be agreed with the young person. This plan will set out the goals/targets to be achieved, timescales for completion and details of those involved in working with the young person.
Our treatment goals
Treatment will follow the assessment, and will put the views and needs
of the young person at the centre in a systemic framework.
The main priority will be to engage the young
person in a therapeutic dialogue around change.
We work with other professionals in partnership to create the most helpful
environment to enable the client to make positive choices. We work to
a Community Care Plan model with regular review meetings
minimum every 3 months.
Our treatment approach
Treatment approaches use or
adapt evidence based techniques / tools.
Treatment approaches with empirical
support are:
- cognitive and behavioural approaches
- solution focused approaches
- motivational enhancements
- pharmacological agents (almost always as an adjunct to psychosocial
interventions occasionally as the main intervention)
- family and systemic work.
Out of county residential placements
FLUX is working in partnership with the appropriate agencies to develop
clear guidance around out-of-county placements for young people with complex
needs to do with substance misuse. This guidance will bear in mind the
limited residential resources that are available nationally, and reflect
good practice around maintaining young people within their community with
appropriate levels of support and treatment.
